Why do we compete? Sporting events are, of course, competitive and essentially so, but competing with others in our day to day lives, why do we do it? It all comes down to a lack of self. If we feel that we are not good enough, we look to the ways of others to fill that void. Let me assure you that competition should be left for the sporting field, it has no place in our daily living. A question to ponder, do you think a lion, or even a bird, is worried about what other lions or birds are doing, or are they concentrating on what they need to do? Competition exists, but make no mistake, it is a man-made way of being, not a heavenly ordained one. All questions can be answered when you observe nature. Think more of yourself, observe those around you, and stop competing! The peace that you will find is incredible!

Look at things differently today! See things as they are, and try not to respond to it, good or bad. It is a great practice to remove yourself from the emotion of living and go with just being. Be your physical self with no emotion. Let your day happen, do your work, read a book, cook dinner, whatever it is that you do, do it, but do it with no thought or emotion. This is called giving yourself a rest, time to allow your emotions to catch up with you and be released. Why hang on to things that you no longer need or even want! Just be!

To truly live a life on this earth takes some doing. Living is much more than a breathing, functioning, physical self, it is the challenge of letting our spirit take control and dictate our day to day living experience. A bold concept, maybe even a scary one, but if one was to let their spirit take control, their true spirit, then all would be well. Think on that thought, things would be done in alignment with what our soul feels is best. Imagine a life filled with a deep sense of joy, profound moments of happiness, no worry to speak of, just living. Life would certainly take on a whole new meaning. Remind yourself, live for today, don’t fret about the past, and let tomorrow take care of itself.

“Ask yourself daily, am I truly living today or just functioning?”
Knowing that you are not putting yourself first is simple. When you feel exhausted, overwhelmed, challenged, and just downright mad, it is time to be selfish and self-centered. It is time to put yourself first in every part of your life. Center your energy, time, and will on doing what is best for you, even at the expense of others. Trust me, they’ll get over it or find someone else more than willing to absorb their energy. Work still needs to be done, chores still have to be completed, but do it in such a way that the focus is entirely on you and what you need to have happen. This practice, needs practice, so practice and you’ll get the hang of it!

“Put yourself first because no one else will”
Use whatever word you like. Whether it be “oh”, “wow”, “geez”, or “really”, follow it with a breath. A breath brings things into focus and centers your thoughts on the present moment. Things happen that we can not control, people say and do things that we are truly puzzled by, but using a simple word like “wow”, followed by a breath, has a fabulous affect on our view of a situation. It actually has the ability to make you laugh and react in an appropriate manner. Try it! If you see an elephant charging you, say “wow”, breathe, and then, get out of the way! A simpler example, if someone says something negative to you, say “wow”, breathe, and move on! Likewise, if someone says something positive to you, say “wow”, breathe, and, of course, say “thank you”. Ciao!
